A little bit of history for you lovely folks on The Biennale of Sydney currently exhibiting at various locations around the city:
Biennale (Italian for ‘every other year’) is a non-profit organization that presents Australia’s largest and most exciting contemporary visual arts event. The primary aim of the event which is held for three months every two years is to provide a platform for individual artists, their creativity and ideas, rather than representations of nationhood.
Widely respected for working with independent artistic directors to exhibit prescient themes and artists, Biennale has a reputation for showing renowned senior artists early in their careers.
Biennale, which is also held in Venice and Sao Paulo first exhibited in Sydney in 1973 with only 37 artists. It now showcases the work of nearly 1600 artists from over 100 countries and is ranked as one of leading international festivals of contemporary art.
If you haven’t yet been - go. It’s held until the 21st June (so plenty of time…) Additional info on the exhibition can be found here: http://www.biennaleofsydney.com.au/
